Pride Of A Man In the remarkable play “Fences” written by August Wilson, fabricates ones man’s outlook on his lack of success for him in professional baseball diminish his hopes for his children. Above all, the dream for most man is to see their family successful at anything they do, but for the play character Troy that dream is clouded by his past failures in life. The writer use real life interaction from history with emphasis on professional sports athletes. The playtime period is from around the late 1940’s with written reference to Jackie Robinson who enter professional Baseball in 1945. The writer also mentions other notable professional athletes, but the content of the play itself surround African American heritage. In the beginning, the writer address a work issues at Troy’s job, with unfair equality amongst garbage collectors in high reference to minority’s not being able to drive garbage trucks. Troy’s opinion on the situation is, “…All I want them to do is change the job description. Give everybody a chance to drive the truck…” (Wilson 1.1.1032). Now indeed Troy stated for everyone to be allow to drive the garbage truck, but Troy real intension is for himself to get a higher paying position at work. The reason I say Troy is looking out for himself is the tone giving off in the play and him being a hardworking and deserves a better job description. Another key point on Troy’s opinionated views on others is seeing through the eyes of his friend Bono. The friend also see Troy’s approach on women as being flirtatious, but the writer gives Troy a demeanor in the play as it being ok for Troy to be friendly towards women.
