Based on the title of this passage, as well as the limited background knowledge I had on the piece, I expected it to be an impassioned rant on the evils of shoe manufacturers. Instead, the article was a straightforward, factual piece on the process of creating the author's tennis shoes. While it lacked the strong opinions I was expecting, the passage was still able to slyly convey the author’s ideas on the complex web of manufacturing that goes into one pair of shoes.
After finishing the article, I was unsure what I could say about it. Despite never blatantly stating it, it is obvious that the author does not agree with the environmental and humanitarian abuse so common in large scale factories. However, the majority of the article was just
