A League of Their Own The movie I choose for this essay was A League of Their Own, directed by Penny Marshall. The reason why I choose this film for my essay is that I really loved how women took over the baseball league after the men were drafted out to war during WW II. During World War II, all the men are fighting in the war. While the men are at war most of the jobs that were left without employes. With their absence the jobs were filled in by women. The owners of the baseball teams decided to form teams with women. So scouts were sent all over the country to find women players. A scout passes through Oregon and finds a woman named Dottie Hinson. This movie takes place during World War II. Mostly all the men in the baseball league have been drafted to go fight in the war. So it was up to the women to take over the league. But not just only the league, men all over the country were drafted, so they all left their jobs. So many women took over the jobs that were left absent. Not just women were to take the men's jobs, the children did too. But why are the women overtaking the jobs and the league? Why are children working? Well it's because of World War II. There are many reasons why World War II even started, but why did the United States enter? Although the war began with Nazi Germany's attack on Poland in September 1939, the United States did not enter the war until after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941.Pearl Harbor was, of course, the immediate cause of the US involvement, but there were less immediate causes that were very important. Specifically, it was American efforts to prevent Japan from getting an empire that helped cause the Pearl Harbor attack.The US did not want Japan to take the Asian empire that Japan felt it deserved and wanted. Japan felt that it needed to knock out the US Pacific Fleet so that it would not interfere as Japan tried to conquer an empire in Asia.
