In “Death of a Salesman”, Willy Loman is attempting to accomplish his “American Dream,” to be the best salesperson around! I am guaranteeing that Willy is impeded by his contemplations. One case of Willy being interrupted by his thoughts is the point at which he frequently considers the past when something awful happens. He enjoys remembering when things were better, for example, when his sons were still in high school and when they all had dreams about becoming wealthy and popular. To Willy, these two goals are key to having the “American Dream.” It is essential to perceive this in light of the fact that it illustrates how unlikely the “American Dream” actually is. Another example of Willy being hindered by his considerations is the way he is rowdy when things do not go his way or to his liking. For instance, Biff generally does not find what he wants to do in life, despite the fact that he is a grown man. At whatever point Willy confronts him, he would begin to raise his voice, becomes distraught over the issue and afterward he would go backtrack into his flashbacks to calm himself. His actions display his solace in his past. This is critical for the readers and viewers to understand on an emotional level because Willy’s character knows that his lifelong dream is close to impossible at this point. To him, it is crucial that he remembers those good days just to keep him motivated enough to, perhaps, start over before it is too late. An additional observation of Willy being guided in the wrong direction by his contemplations is when he must be observed, constantly, by his family because of his lack of safety. Willy’s thoughts are pushing him to his breaking point and causes him to lose all of his motivation, especially after he gets fired from his job as a salesman. She has taken this treatment for so long and she can’t do anything about it because it was against the law to stand up for herself as a black woman. This example not only proves that her racial background was the reason why people saw her as a “thing”, but also her passiveness enabled many people to walk over her. She wasn’t a human as far as those rich southerners were concerned. This is important because it shows her limits and rules that someone created for her just because she looks a certain way. Another instance of Aibeleen being looked down upon because of her passiveness is when she gets fired, by someone else, for stealing even though there was no proof that she did it. She tried to explain herself to the accuser but she was cut off instantly. This proves that she worked up to gain respect and to make money and it all got ruined, just like that, because of the color of her skin. Even though this event caused her to feel free but she did leave behind a precious child that may end up hating her because of what the other people may say about her and she couldn’t do anything about it. It also is important to take note of that because Aibeleen could get in a lot of trouble because of rumors that will try to destroy her.
