Violet Harmon is the seventeen-year-old daughter (and the oldest child) born to Ben and Vivien Harmon, originally from Boston, Massachusetts. Ben is a psychiatrist and used to teach a psychology class at a local university in Boston. Vivien was a renowned cellist but had long since retired and became a house wife and stay at home mom. Vivien had a stillbirth, and not long after she found her husband Ben cheating with one of his university students. He does whatever he can to keep the family together afterwards, including packing up and moving them all to Los Angeles for a new beginning. Violet isn’t impressed with having to pack up and leave their home just because her parents were having problems. Upon first seeing the house she hates it, but when the realtor tells the family of the horrible murder-suicide that happened in the house by the previous homeowners, it was Violet that closed the deal on the house because she was so fascinated with it.
