Academic Integrity at Roanoke College is the promise of all individuals to be honest with all of their work and to do the right and ethical thing in all situations. “It is the moral code or ethical policy of academia. This includes values such as avoidance of cheating or plagiarism; maintenance of academic standards; honesty and rigor in research and academic publishing”(Center for Academic Integrity). Ones integrity reflects the person they are and how the others perceive you. Choices made at an early age define the person you will become later in life. Integrity in the business world means that employees are not trying to find shortcuts in their businesses and come by all sales honorably. Violations of integrity in college can range anywhere from a failing grade in the course all the way to dismissal from the school, whereas violations in the business world can range from the loss of a job, to fines, all the way to jail time if there is crime or fraud involved.…show more content… Violations ranged anywhere from getting the answers to homework assignments from other students, getting test answer keys, and using translators and electronic devices on tests and exams. It was almost as if teachers did not care or just turned a blind eye to the fact that this was happening in their classes. I do not have an issue saying that I, myself had a run-in with the academic integrity board at my school, but the important thing is that I have learned from my mistakes and realize that college is much different than high school. Entering college, students are considered adults and are expected to be responsible for their own actions. There are no excuses for intentional integrity violations of any
