“The Scarlet Ibis” is about two brothers who are always together. Doodle was named after the way he crawled backwards. His brother said he crawled like a doodlebug. Later into the story, the brother is embarrassed because his brother can’t walk. The older brother is a normal kid. Doodle is a kid who is different from everyone. The older brother is very helpful for Doodle because he wants his brother to walk. Doodle wants to be normal, because his brother is. He doesn’t want to be like everyone, just his older brother. Doodle’s biggest fear is being left by his older brother. Doodle is very different from everyone because of his able to walk when he was younger. He walked backwards and then was eventually named “doodle”, after the doodlebug.
