Pope Francis has declared that women may be forgiven by priests for having an abortion.While people may believe that this is a victory compared to possibly being excommunictaed, it is in fact not.
His decision is not an act of mercy or compassion in fact, it aims to make women feel ashamed for having an abortion. Although research shows that most women don't regret their decision to have an abortion, the Pope seeks to shame their actions and proclaim that what they have chosen is a sin for which they must be forgiven.By calling their decision a sin it shows that he still looks down on them and wants to make them feel guitly by condesceinding them.
