I think that the Roman Republic was kind of democratic. One of the reasons that the Roman Republic is kind of democratic and not very democratic is that the citizens seem to have some control over the laws and which people get voted into office, but the only people who can vote were male citizens and free male slaves the women were not allowed to vote at all.Also the only people allowed onto the assemblies were adult male Roman citizens. All voting had to be conducted in Rome.
