Terrance Hayes’s “Talk” expresses strength and courage as the narrator over looks an encounter with racism. This poem provides more questions than it does answers, which makes reading his poetry more enjoyable. He gives a personal experience of how he handles racism and how he overcomes it with a dear friend of his. With Terrance Haye’s originality, ingenuity, imagery and intense detail in this poem, readers can feel as if they’re personally experiencing everything that the narrator is feeling.
