Finola Slater Personal Statement (Adult Nursing) I have always wanted to be involved in a career that makes a positive impact in a person’s life, and it was throughout my college course that confirmed the career path I wanted to take. I have always admired the hard work and motivation it takes to become a nurse as it is such a rewarding career. For me, becoming an adult nurse is a rewarding and challenging career where you have a chance to make a difference in people’s lives. I would enjoy learning new practical skills and procedures that would benefit others. It is vital to have the right attitude and values when becoming a nurse, I feel that I am caring and compassionate and I have demonstrated these values on my placement. My desire to take a course in adult nursing was established after my first work placement at a pre-school. During my time at the pre-school, I enjoyed caring for and attending to the needs of the children. Another unit which I found enjoyable was Anatomy and Physiology which I achieved a grade distinction in, in my first year of college. I also enjoyed learning about the communication unit which I achieved a distinction in, during this unit I learnt about communication skills and personal skills and how important they are, as they are a fundamental part of being a successful nurse.
