Officer Lavalley, received the dispatch and responded to the scene. This initial dispatch may have prevented the actions of the officer if he had received more pertinent information. For instance, the suspect, Grover D. Cannon, 27, of Shreveport, had an criminal record and the police was actually looking for him as a suspect in an unrelated July 15 shooting on Judson Street that left a man wounded. If Officer Lavalley had this information prior to his response, he may have waited for back-up before he approached the home. However, Officer Lavalley went inside the home alone, confronted the suspect and was shot by the suspect. By the time other police officers arrived on scene, the suspect had fled.
