Despite the efforts of scientists and researchers, there is no firm evidence on how and why Neanderthals became extinct. However, there is a considerable debate regarding Neanderthal extinction. Scientists are questioning whether the Neanderthal extinction was due to the competition with anatomically modern humans (AMH) and the increasing AMH population and expansion, or the climate changes towards the end of the Marine Isotope Stage 3, during which was a time interval when there were rapid changes in temperatures which impacted the climate and vegetation.
