From these results, I conclude that I have succeeded so far but that I need to keep pushing and striving for the best.

As discussed earlier, Musical Theatre is a composite art form; all aspects matter. I have chosen to focus on the musical aspect for my analysis. I have specifically chosen “Endless Night” from The Lion King. The musical version of The Lion King is based upon Disney’s movie. Many of the songs used in the film are included in the musical along with numbers specifically written for the show, including “Endless Night”. The song is found in act II of the show and sung by adult Simba.
The number begins a drone in the woodwind and the chorus chanting a peculiar,…show more content… A pedal note is held in the orchestra over bars 4 to 6 holding tension and suspense whilst Simba begins to sing. The majority of Simba’s melodies are downward moving which emphasizes his internal mood and feelings of emptiness and loneliness. In the second verse the accompaniment becomes slightly more complex with a guitar and “ooo”s being introduced underneath Simba’s melancholic deliberations of home. Everything slowly builds, getting gradually louder until the chorus. The chorus shows how desperate Simba is to have his father there. To do this the orchestrations, as well as the voice, change from p to mf and Simba jumps from his lower range, where he is reflecting, to a slightly higher place in his range closer to a longing belt. The lyrics of the chorus resemble those which are said in the Disney film, “You said you’d always be there for me!” Once again, there is a pause at the end of the bar on “night-mare” which stresses how he feels that life is empty, lonely and in a way, scary.
