One’s definition of a beautiful place may differ from another. For example, one may believe that the sight and sound of ocean waves colliding with each other as they ooze onto the shore of the beach is beautiful, while another may believe that the sight of gleaming city lights with the glowing silver shine of the moon resting in the sky is beautiful. Hume Lake Christian Camp is my definition of a beautiful place. It it located in the Sequoia National Forest in Hume, Fresno County, California. As we arrived closer to the camp, our pupils dilated and jaws dropped in awe, reminding me of a child on Christmas morning as he set his eyes on the glamorous pine tree and the sparkling gifts wrapped neatly under it. The grassy-colored pine trees that surrounded us had branches that stretched up to the heavens. Our hearts raced, as if they were running a marathon, the closer we approached the camp. The oak stained cabins gradually came into view. Suddenly, the bus jolted to a stop.
When we exited the bus, I felt the scorching heat, the sun’s rays produced, impact my skin. The solitaire’s chirping harmonized the chirping of the rock wren; it sounded like music to my ears. The livid mountains in the distance gradually turned into silhouettes; they began to lose their visual clarity. The sky was dyed amber, orange, red, and blue. Figures of solitaires soared through the sky. The pines’ shadows became larger. The chartreuse grass began to become bottle green. The ground gradually decreased in temperature. The sun’s last visible rays peaked above the horizon. The pines became silhouettes; they were no longer clearly visible. Darkness began to cover the sky like a dark blanket. The reflection of light on the lake disappeared. The rays had
