When mankind hears the word democracy they automatically think of the current president but, the United States has not always had a democracy government. Abraham Lincoln helped establish the modern day democracy. He dedicated his career to “the capability of a people to govern themselves.” Abraham Lincoln also known as “Honest Abe” because he could not tell a lie was the 16th president of the United States and plays a very important role in the history of our country. In the 1860 Presidential campaign he expressed his dislike to slavery and his determination to limit the westward expansion of it into the new territories.
