Many young teenagers struggle to find their spot in the world. In the chapter “Chanclas” by Sandra Cisneros, Esperanza is one of those teenagers. For a majority of the chapter she is struggling with having to wear her old shoes. Esperanza is a dynamic character because she does change her view on her old shoes. We see this by the stages she goes through; disappointment, embarrassment and then acceptance. In the chapter “Chanclas” Cisneros, characterizes Esperanza as dynamic by showing us her change of mind about her shoes over time, revealing the importance of focusing on the good things.
