To end their habit, many smokers have turned to electronic devices called electronic cigarettes or e-cigs. These tobacco cigarette analogs replace the ritualized inhalation missing with nicotine gums, patches and lozenges making the transition from smoker to non-smoker easier. Unlike cigarette smoke, the vapor of e-cigs has little odor. It also lacks the tar and many of the carcinogens tobacco cigarettes produce. E-cig fluids are cheaper than cigarettes and the vapor approximates the sensation of smoking. During their transition, customers wean themselves off tobacco cigarettes by purchasing flavored e-cig fluids of gradually decreasing nicotine concentrations. Once weaned, they can keep enjoying flavored vapor by purchasing nicotine-free fluids. Many former smokers have become a dedicated “vapers”. Energy- Vapers cannot tell when the battery is about to run out, so they may find their unit needs recharging, which can take over an hour, when they most want to use it. Cartridges- It is hard to know that a cartridge is empty, so vapers cannot tell when they might need a new, fluid filled cartridge. Since cartridges are not interchangeable, vapers must order new cartridges from the company that made their e-cig. Choices- E-cigs only vaporize fluid making them incompatible with aromatherapy herbs. Design advancements have led to portable vaporizers like the DaVinci.
