The Lives of Disney Princesses “Dear Parents, Jasmine was in a relationship with a homeless boy named Aladdin. Snow White lived alone with seven men. Pinocchio was a liar. Robin Hood was a thief. Tarzan walked around with no clothes on. A stranger kissed Sleeping Beauty and she married him. Cinderella lied and snuck out at night to attend a party. You can’t blame us. We were taught to rebel since a young age.” (Company, 1) Parents worry about what their kids watch, but letting them watch Disney doesn’t seem any better for them. For little girls all they want is to become a Disney princess. As mentioned in “What’s Wrong with Cinderella?” by Peggy Orenstein, “To call princesses a “trend” among girls is like calling Harry Potter a book.” (Orenstein, 64) Parents just don’t realize what this…show more content…
In Frozen, Princess Anna and Queen Elsa have made improvements, but still have flaws. This was Disney first movie where the focus was on the sister’s relationship instead of the princess and prince’s relationship. Even though, there is a princess and prince’s relationship, Princess Anna and Prince Han, Queen Elsa tells Anna she can’t marry someone she just met. Disney contradicts itself by doing this, but they did make improvements; having Anna wait to marry him because he does end up being the villain of the movie. Disney did try to show mare realistic aspects to this relationship, but they still tried to fall into old habits of the easy portrayal on love. Queen Elsa in the movie is hidden away because she wasn’t normal. At the end of the movie though, love cures all, but she wouldn’t have found that out if she was still trapped in her room. Girls should not be afraid to show who they are. These girls should be able to have confidence in themselves and not have to hide away from the world. The movie Frozen does have some flaws that are still influencing little girls
