Definition Of Fair In Baseball

What is fair? In baseball, according to the official rules of the MLB, a fair ball is a batted ball that settles on fair ground between home and first base, or between home and third base. In baseball there is an exact definition of what is fair, but in life there is not. In life nothing is ever considered fair no matter how you look at it. This is why I believe the only thing fair in life is a ball hit between first and third. My softball coach once told me, “Nothing in life is fair, nothing in the world is fair, and absolutely nothing in this sport is fair unless it is hit between the two chalked lines.” My coach has told me a lot of wise things over the four years he has been my coach, but for some reason these words seemed to stick.
