• Explain what it means to be ethical as it relates to personal, academic, and professional growth. As stated by Gample, ethics is actually the investigation of matters that are right or wrong, justice or injustice, good or bad, and so on (Page 1, 2010). This relates to personal life when making decisions based on how this particular decision will impact the wellbeing of either self or others. Making ethical decisions will determine what kind of person someone is and if they are trustworthy. Academically being ethical sometimes relates to coursework that each individual endures. Although having someone proofread a paper and make minor changes as well as grammatical fixes, the person actually writing the paper is not an ethical act. The word ethical relates to professional growth in many ways from correct billing in the medical profession to being at work on time and getting the job done. In the workforce if someone is not ethical, many times that person will not be promoted or even could potentially be fired for their unethical standards. •…show more content…
An ethical dilemma that I have encountered recently was having a patient that I felt didn’t need treatment, but due to his insurance we were supposed to see him for the allotted amount of visits. I have taking the stand and wrote a letter not only to his treating physician, but also to the insurance company stating that he was able to accomplish all activities of daily living along with any work duties that he had to do.
