QUOTATION:[My daughter] says she wants to marry a rich man, so she can have a Porsche. My rejoinder always is: Go out and get rich yourself, so you can buy your own.
ATTRIBUTION:Carol Royce (b. 1942), U.S. radio station administrator. As quoted in The Great Divide, book 1, section 2, by Studs Terkel (1988).

Royce, a divorcee who administered a classical-music station, was speaking of her daughter, a pizza parlor employee and vocational-school student.
