Ballou, Hosea, 2d
 
 
1796–1861, American Universalist clergyman, b. Guilford, Vt.; grandnephew of Hosea Ballou (1771–1852). He was one of the founders and the first president (1853–61) of Tufts College. His Ancient History of Universalism (1829) is the earliest American monograph dealing with the history of the doctrine.
